BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China announced a list of 30 songs to be broadcast to Earth next year from its first lunar-probing satellite, the authorities said.

The Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, in charge of the lunar project, announced Friday a list of 30 tunes to be played from the lunar-probing satellite, which coincides with this year's traditional Mid-Autumn Festival or the Moon Festival, a time for family reunions. The songs were chosen according to public votes and by a panel of experts, organized by the commission, China Central Television and China Musicians Association.

Experts said these songs can express Chinese people's love for the motherland, for life, peace and their pursuit of truth and nature, which will showcase the beauty of Chinese culture and its influence. Most of the songs were Chinese folk songs. The song got most votes was folk song "My Wonderful Home Town", followed by "I Love China", "Singing Praises of Motherland" and 27 others.

It doesn't say how we are supposed to listen to the songs.

There is a website, ishici.com, that has very many Chinese songs. Maybe thousands. I tell you, they are clever. So clever. It doesn't really pay to look at titles like "My Wonderful Home Town" and "I Love China" and dismiss them out of hand.

But what's the point? Illiterate slag is a complicated issue in and of itself, an issue which the East Asians have only been dealing with since around 1950. Even though Hong Kong has existed since ~1642, the Japanese, Korean and Vietnam wars, the creation of global telephony, and most importantly the airplane have created a forum where potentially literate people can be cultivated, elevated and taught. I should know. I'm one of them.

It's kind of like owning a shoebox full of penicillin, and nobody you know wants to take a tablet, and you have to invest in nursing services, delicious hospital food and lots of handkerchiefs to keep 'em all alive. They can smell the penicillin, and its function, but it just doesn't connect. It's 2006 and pneumonia is just another joke and that is something you metaphorically don't ever ever want to say out loud.

If only we could find out if the Chinese government thinks Aqua Teen Hunger Force is an interesting show with a new meaningful dynamic that has an impact on the status of Asian corporate interests....there's just no way of knowing....what the Chinese government really thinks....

"Their precious hip hop and heavy metals albums will never survive our 30 Songs Satellite program, Er.... Our songs are as clever as Sony and can never be erased."

Funny thing is, I spend time reading the songs. It kind of puts the Trick in McTrixie. You should really know what the competition (me) knows. Or else.....

Here's a song that fits today's mood. It says "Don't be a loser".

龟虽寿

神龟虽寿,猷有竟时。
腾蛇乘雾,终为土灰。
老骥伏枥,志在千里;
烈士暮年,壮心不已。
盈缩之期,不但在天;
养怡之福,可得永年。
幸甚至哉,歌以咏志。
