Testicles. Rhymes with Pericles. Swamp pill. It's called a swamp pill because of the nature of the production area. A vast work area, a Garden State, growing a million sperm a second. Or something like that. New Jersey is "The Swamp State". It all fits.

Mao Tai is the greatest of all Chinese alcohols, made from sorghum spirits and limestone water a la Kentucky, from China north of Thailand. Cooking for One

I have started making my own salsa. Pico de Gallo, really. I buy two giant tomatoes, which variety does not have a lot of seeds or seed matter; onion, lime juice, cilantro pepper and garlic. It's all chopped up and refrigerated in a big big tupperware container.

Homemade quesadillas are easy. One heats up some cheddar, gently in a frypan, and puts the tortilla on top to adhere to the cheese while it warms up. Opening a can of refried beans, adding a bunch of salsa and heating, one spreads the mixture on top of the melted cheese and adds a bunch of supermarket bag salad if it's there. Satisfecho.

Tired of the long Quebecois winter? Me too. How about some French food? It involves a can of Campbell's cream of broccoli, frozen peas and carrots, half a box of pasta and some sour cream for the Campbells instead of water or milk. Season to taste, maybe with cumin and red flake pepper. Original Cajun!

If you look at power, anthropomorphicaly, its supposed to make you think about Boy George, Latoya Jackson or Paris Hilton, whatever you please. It also makes one think about the female-shaped reflectors one sees on trucks.

Why is Uganda the Dry Crow? Is there lack of rainfall away from the rivers and lakes? Sometimes the Chinese government makes decisions that you really have to think about.

For instance, the color of white isn't used traditionally for wedding announcements, as it's the color of death. I think they call "shield" and "dry" the same thing, because you sweat like a pig if you carry a shield for more than a few minutes. Its the sort of word that helps to discourage war. It's an example of that famed Eastern Pacifism.

There is a website, ishici.com, that has very many Chinese songs. Maybe thousands. I tell you, they are clever. So clever. It doesn't really pay to look at titles like "My Wonderful Home Town" and "I Love China" and dismiss them out of hand.

But what's the point? Illiterate slag is a complicated issue in and of itself, an issue which the East Asians have only been dealing with since around 1950. Even though Hong Kong has existed since ~1642, the Japanese, Korean and Vietnam wars, the creation of global telephony, and most importantly the airplane have created a forum where potentially literate people can be cultivated, elevated and taught. I should know. I'm one of them.

It's kind of like owning a shoebox full of penicillin, and nobody you know wants to take a tablet, and you have to invest in nursing services, delicious hospital food and lots of handkerchiefs to keep 'em all alive. They can smell the penicillin, and its function, but it just doesn't connect. It's 2006 and pneumonia is just another joke and that is something you metaphorically don't ever ever want to say out loud.

Giant camel's remains found in Syria

Professor Jean-Marie Le Tensorer of the University of Basel was quoted as saying that the discovery is revolutionary for science and it was not known that the dromedary was present in the Middle East more than 10,000 years ago. Tensorer said the camel's shoulders stood three meters high and it was around four meters tall, as big as a giraffe or an elephant, adding "nobody knew that such a species had existed."

Meanwhile, 100,000-year-old human remains were also discovered nearby at the once water-rich site in the desert steppe of Kowm, a 20 km-wide gap between two mountain ranges that had a number of springs, according to Tensorer. Uganda to start petroleum production in 2009

Ugandan first lady launches family planning device

KAMPALA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) - Uganda's First Lady Janet Museveni has launched a new family planning device called Moon Beads over the weekend to help women control their pregnancies. The device composed of a string of 32 colored beads can help women know days when they can get pregnant, through counting the beads, thus prevent unexpected pregnancy.

"I know that teaching or practicing family planning for a backward population is very hard. But I urge you to work selflessly," Museveni was quoted by Sunday Vision as saying.

While launching the new device in Kampala, the first lady called on local health service providers to ensure that such vital services could also reach the needy people in the countryside. The method requires an individual to move a ring around different beads with different colors everyday starting from the red bead. Once the ring touches the white beads, it means it is not safe for unprotected sex. When the ring moves to the brown beads it would be safe.

Family planning is one of Uganda's key policies under the Poverty Eradication Action Plan which focuses on saving women and children's lives, reaching out to the youth and involving men in responsible decision making. What is this power, anyway? It has something to do with certain unofficial party cruise some Portuguese people made to what is today Senegal, in 1200, around the same time that the Bantu wave of migration began, originating in that same area. I guess that this level of contact with Europeans was a new thing under the sun and Bantu people spread out far and wide to tell the story to everybody. The Portuguese must have been pretty good because by 1850 the Bantu system had been adopted all the way down in Xhosa land.

The way I see it there are two competing schools of buddhism popular among young people: Zen and Pure Land. Zen could be seen as Roxy Music developing into Ramones developing into Kanye West and Gnarls Barkley; you know, real nice and all. The number of articles about Pipelineistan, Russia, Ceyhan, etc is just amazing. Alexander's Oil and Gas Connections covers every continent. It's great coverage. The phrase "Lifeline of Europe" is being used a lot. Russia is now responsible for heating every home from Westport, Ireland to Athens, Greece. It's an awesome responsibility.

Ceyhan is a new city under the sun, like San Jose is a new city, or Hong Kong, or Cancun. This Turkish city, only a few miles north of Syria's border with Israel has an oil transshipment facility as its the terminus of a Caspian Sea related pipeline. I can't remember if it's oil or gas or both. Viva Ceyhan!

Europe's Lifeline. It's a huge deal, and I can't help feeling that the coverage is describing a new swell of insular Euroattitude. It's like they're going to the mattresses, or like being locked in a country home during a blizzard with a copy of the 1911 Encyclopedia Brittanica or a full DVD set of the BBC's Greatest Hits. Like a furore over the advent of blimp travel, featuring the economic equivalent of Led Zeppelin and the Hindenburg. OOoohh so cozy. We can stay in and catalogue this warehouse full of my uncle's carpet remnants.

Like Britain's never ending quest for a second British Invasion, or like Ozzy and Company eating Lancashire meat pies and Wiltshire toffee every day in the middle of Los Angeles*, it seems that Europeans are feeling it. One thing I notice about "How I Met Your Mom" wiki link which I watched a minute of last night was that the screenwriters are always describing actions instead of showing actions. Very unfilmic. "Til' Death" wiki link and "Two and a Half Men" wiki link do the same thing. It's really boring. Is one supposed to imagine how "Kelly insulted the guy at the frappucino place" or how "Brad used up all the hot water last Tuesday?" Why does one have to imagine how "Terry spilled coffee on a priest", how "Matty's teacher looks like Freddie Prinze", how "these pancakes taste like they were made by Kim Il Sung's mother-in-law" or how "the car sounds like it was fixed by James Earl Jones after a night of tequila shots and bodysurfing with Marlee Matlin?" Isn't this something the producers need to put on tv, so the audience understands what they are trying to say in the first place? How are we to understand the values of the show if the screenwriting is so "styptic"? One could at least put in a Newhartian phone call, or a Family Guy-style miniflashback, if it was so dang important to the plot!

Logically, it must not be important to the plot.

To be ridiculously sarcastically negative, in the manner of these shows, how about this: Perhaps I can describe a website I saw this morning instead of providing a link. Perhaps you need a paragraph of prose on the NOFX video instead of the YouTube link. Or maybe I will talk about Homer Simpson's hair, as the raison of the blog entry, without going through the trouble of uploading a picture. It's kind of like leaving typos in a blog entry on purpose because "the readers deserve to think harder about what it is that you're saying".

It gets to the point, where I am so (atypically) cynical, about screenwriters in this case, that I can surmise that they might be "saltpetering" the audience by making errors like this. It's an easy trick. It was common knowlege when I was young that the army put saltpeter in the cigarette rations so that personnel would spend more time fighting and less time screwing around. Letterman can't stop talking about this kind of thing; it's part of his show, a load-bearing element of his personality, Why not just add it to a prime time romantic comedy and post it to COST CENTER 201: "Sucking up to Dave"? Maybe the influential Los Angeles pornography lobby has decided to support a show that is so mildly irritating that it makes people want to take leave of their senses and take up residence in the wonderful world of Penthouse Forum. (Don't forget to do your physic$ homework! - ha ha.) If you want to compare it to something, maybe try "24: A day in the life of a spy, portrayed on a real-time hour by hour basis".

I really thought this description/enactment wrinkle was a well-known rule of screenplay writing! Feh. I think I'll write 5 pages about "How I Rented and Watched the Movie "Clue"." Let's all go watch a 1928 remake of a 1921 British murder mystery. Pre-Hitchcock!

When I get tired of competing with Siskel, Ebert, Roper et al I will remove this post. I don't feel like having some film dude who read my blog come up to me at a party someday and start talking to me about it. Considering that I've watched less than 5 minutes of these shows since they were put on the air, what do I care? And how about the advertising? I don't need a Corolla, but I think I need to test drive one. Sounds like a good Sunday afternoon waste of time for people who don't have the sense to put the game on.
